MY REFLECTIONS ON MATTHEW 21:12-17

The Temple of God

🌱 The temple of God (commonly known as church) is a holy place where people worship and pray together.

🌱 But the temple of God (the true church) is not just a building. We who are created by God are His temples. We are God's temple!

🌹1 Corinthians 3: 16-17

(6) Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that his Spirit dwelleth in you? (17) God will punish anyone who destroys his temple. Because God's temple is holy, and you are that temple.

🌱 Like God's temple as stated in Matthew 21:12-17, God does not want His temple to be defiled or become a nest of sin. So let us also live in holiness and righteousness by the grace of God.

🌱 God is angry with sin because He is a holy and just God. But God loves every sinner, and He leads them to enlightenment and the truth that there can be new life and eternal life through Jesus Christ.

🌱 Jesus cleansed the temple. If God wants the place of worship clean and in order, so what more for the people whom He considered as His temple.

As God's temple we are the manifestation of God. Jesus sanctifies us and He demanded us to live not in our sinful nature and take on the divine nature of God. (John 5:14, John 8:11, John 8:34-36).

Be ready to be sanctified by God. ♥️

🌱We as temples of God should be prayerful because we are house of prayer. Through prayer we receive the power of Jesus to live a pure and righteous life worthy of the presence of God. From this power that flows to us will flow healing and praise: miracle of healing and praise with faith.

🌱 The children cried and shouted "Hossana". This is an intense feeling of children wanting to praise God. If you were a child like them, why would you cry for something or someone?

The verse 16 says, "Yea; have ye never read, Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou hast perfected praise?"

It is God who causes those children to praise Him. But the chief priests and scribes did not like this because they did not know Jesus and they did not believe that Jesus is God.

Additional points:

Why Jesus acted like this?

🌱 The children called Jesus the Son of David. This indicates the royal origin of Jesus. But Jesus is greater than that. Jesus is the Son of God (Luke 9:35, 2 Peter 1:17), Jesus and the Father are one (John 10:30, John 17:20-23), Jesus is God (John 1:1).

In that case, it is normal for Jesus to get angry seeing the temple of God being used in a wrong purpose.

What does "Hossana" means?

🌱 Hossana was mentioned in Matthew 21:15 KJV,

"And when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying in the temple, and saying, Hosanna to the Son of David; they were sore displeased,

According to what Penny Noyes shared in Christianity,

Hossana is often translates us "Please save us."

It is a Greek word “ὡσαννά” that most scholars believe is the transliteration of two Hebrew words-

יָשַׁע- “yasha” which means “to save or deliver”

and

אָנּאָ - “anna” which means “please, I beseech.”

Other scholars believe its Hebrew roots come from a different verb tense of

 “Yasha” הוֹשַׁ֣ע

which means to cause or to bring about salvation.

In this tense, hosanna becomes a command to bring about or cause salvation.

Blessings and peace be with you all!

All glory belongs to God alone! 🙌
